How does it work? The system supplying the anaesthetic is computer controlled, so the anaesthetic is given much more slowly and gently than can be done manually, and this is what makes it painless.

Clinicians can also be more accurate with the wand, and can use less anaesthetic, as the anaesthetic is targeted to specific areas, this has the additional benefit of NOTmaking your whole mouth numb for hours after the treatment – much better all round.

Instead of a drill we use the Crystal Mark Air Abrasion technology, which entails:

A fine spray of abrasive particles, to gently and painlessly wipe away the decayed part of your tooth. Using a special decay indicator dye we check that all your decay is removed

Once all your tooth decay is removed, we fill your cavity with one of the new generation tooth coloured filling materials, to restore your tooth's strength and appearance

This procedure can be done without local anaesthetic and is much less damaging to your tooth than using the conventional drill.

Microdentistry

This is the philosophy of finding and treating tooth decay as soon as possible, and removing as small amount of your tooth structure as possible.

The Crystal Mark Air Abrasion system directs only a thin stream of abrasive powder at the area of your tooth decay as opposed to the large drill, which if your decay is small, will also remove your healthy tooth structure.
If only a small amount of your tooth is removed then only a small filling is required, and with the modern tooth coloured filling materials it would look just like your normal teeth.

The Air Abrasion system is perfect for children, because with regular check-ups their decay can be detected early, and usually treated without an injection or the noisy drill, providing a basis for a good patient dentist relationship and their healthy mouth.

Intra - oral cameras

All our surgeries have miniature colour camera systems installed. A special 'probe' which contains the lens system and a light source is used to examine in your mouth whilst you lie in the dental chair watching.

The pictures are displayed on a screen in the ceiling, so that both yourself and the clinician take part in the examination, and any dental problems can be viewed, and a diagnosis made together.

The images can be frozen and printed on photographic paper at the chair-side within a few seconds. Both our patients and the clinicians can now discuss any problems including the treatment options and agree a treatment plan to resolve the problem.

Invisalign technology

Appledore offer you truly invisible orthodontic treatment!
With invisalign – the most modern and most invisible way to straighten your teeth.

Instead of using fixed braces on your teeth we can give you straight teeth with a series of invisible retainers. You will have a series of photographs and x-rays taken and a set of very accurate impressions. These are then sent to California to the invisalign facility. The impressions are scanned with lasers to make 3D images of your teeth which are then ‘straightened’ virtually on the computer, step by step. Once your dentist has agreed the treatment plan, the computer images will be transferred to the manufacturing point to make you a series of custom retainers. Each retainer is worn for approximately 2 weeks, and you will see your teeth gently align. Treatment times are similar to regular braces. This is a real boon to those in the public eye who want to have straight teeth, but cannot bear the thought of having braces that show.

Only dentists with invisalign accreditation can offer the invisalign technology.

This enables you to have a crown, inlay or veneer in one visit with your Appledore dentist.
Instead of taking messy impressions, we take a special 3D photograph of your tooth into the computer. A few mouse clicks later, the information is sent by a radio beam to the milling machine which makes your new inlay, crown or veneer in a high strength porcelain.
The whole process from you walking in the door to leaving with your newly restored tooth takes about one and a half hours. This means you can have single visit treatments, no temporary crowns and totally metal free restorations.
While you wait you are welcome to view your crown, inlay or veneer being created, whilst enjoying a cup of tea or coffee.
