Studies have shown that you are more than three times as likely to suffer severe gum disease and loose teeth if you smoke, and smoking is also associated with higher levels of tooth decay because:
* Smokers may neglect their teeth more
* Smokers may suck sweets to disguise the smell of smoke
* Smoking itself may advance your decay
* Smoking affects your saliva production
* Smoking also causes cancer of your mouth, throat and lungs as well as being implicated in heart disease, and the progression and severity of other forms of cancer such as breast and ovarian cancer
